Lady Gaga made her dramatic entrance to the 2019 award show season looking like a modern Cinderella, with pastel blue hair and a sweeping Valentino gown. The nominee for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, thanks to her role in A Star Is Born, walked the 76th Annual Golden Globe® Awards’ red carpet in cool blue tones from head to toe.
Her romantic style began with an architectural ballerina bun featuring icy blue hair. She dripped in princess-worthy jewels that showed off her shimmery, glowing skin (kudos to whoever did her spray tan for the event).
Lady Gaga’s hair was created by her personal stylist Frederic Aspiras, and it was inspired by (you guessed it!) that epic blue gown. The star has worn blue hair before, most recently for her Las Vegas shows, and she decided to revisit it with an elegant updo for the red carpet.
To create her cool blue color, Aspiras used Joico® Blonde Life Powder Lightener to create what he described in a press release as a “brilliant blonde” shade. Next, he mixed Joico Color Intensity® in Sky and Rose to blend that memorable “Cerulean Blue.” He relied on a medley of ghd® hot tools and brushes, as well as Joico products, to style her coif.
We can thank Lady Gaga’s longtime makeup artist, Sarah Tanno, for the whimsical Marc Jacobs® Beauty makeup. Her expressive hazel eyes were accented with bold brown brows (quite different from her character Ally’s thin ones in the opening scene) and what the Marc Jacobs Beauty team described as a “stormy purple” eyeshadow look.
If you want to try the exact colors used on Gaga, we have the breakdown. Tarro relied on the Eye-Conic Multi-Finish Eyeshadow PaletteTM; in Frivoluxe ($49), blending the shades Dress (a frosty plum) and How You Want (a deep purple) around her eyes to create a smoky effect. Highliner Gel Eye CrayonTM; in Blacquer ($25) was run along the lash line. It was finished with See-Quins Glam Glitter EyeshadowTM; in Flashlight ($28) for even more frost and lots of black eyeliner (on the top and bottom lashes).
Gaga’s cheeks and lips were accented with soft peachy and satin shades. Her blush was courtesy of Air BlushTM; Soft Glow Duo in Kink & Kisses ($42). While it took a trio to create her lip look, including (P)outlinerTM; Longwear Lip Liner Pencil in Prim(rose) ($24), New NudesTM; Sheer Gel Lipstick in Moody Margot ($30), and EnamoredTM;Hi-Shine Lip Lacquer Lipgloss in Sugar Sugar ($28).
“[Lady Gaga] loved the idea of incorporating the color of the dress into her hair and makeup. She wanted to feel like Lady Gaga,” Tanno said in a press release.
