One of the perks of being a beauty editor is having the access to the hottest products and treatments in the industry, and endless knowledge to discern which are actually worth using. And considering that having their finger on the pulse of, well, everything is par for the course, it’s a safe bet to assume that these editors know what to do when it comes to injectables.

For many editors, writing about medical aesthetics is part of the job, and some have decided to take things one step further and try the treatments out for themselves. We asked some of the top editors in the industry to spill their secrets and to share one piece of advice that they wish readers knew about injectable wrinkle reducers, which are used to temporarily smooth the look of moderate to severe wrinkles in certain areas of the face such as the forehead, frown lines, and crow’s feet.  And their most important insider tips: Find a licensed provider you trust because, like any medical treatment, they have potential risks and side effects, and stop caring about what other people think; as one of them so aptly put it, “the stigma surrounding injectables is ridiculous.” Discover more when you read on.

How old are you? 30.

How old were you when you started getting injectable wrinkle reducers? 27.

Who do you see for your injectables? Dr. Joshua Zeichner.

What do you get done? My forehead (between [my] brows) and I've gotten my eye area [crow’s feet] done once.

What’s one piece of advice you’d like to share regarding injectable wrinkle reducers? The stigma surrounding injectables is ridiculous, in my opinion: I think everyone should do whatever makes them happy, and if [wrinkle reducer] means you enjoy your reflection in the mirror that much more, then go for it! And if you decide it's not for you, that's fine, too — but that doesn't make it okay to criticize those that do like it.

How old are you? 33.

How old were you when you started getting injectable wrinkle reducers?  30.

Who do you see for your injectables? Dr. Ellen Marmur is so chill and comforting — she was my first and my Mom’s first too! Dr. David Shafer is really fun but pragmatic and honest. Dr. Shereene Idriss’s skin looks so smooth and so does Dr. Dara Liotta’s.

What do you get done? My forehead and crow’s feet.

What’s one piece of advice you’d like to share regarding injectable wrinkle reducers? Look at your doctor’s personal aesthetic — it will tell you a lot about their taste. A talented injector has an eye. It [can] hurt when it gets injected, but it’s fleeting. Once you start feeling it kick in, it’s . . . a little weird feeling, but I got used to it.

Who do you see for your injectables: Dr. Joshua Zeichner. I've been going to Dr. Zeichner for years, starting when he was treating my cystic acne. I fully trust him and know he wants the best for me (and my face!).

What do you get done?  Dr. Zeichner has an incredibly light touch. At my first appointment, I was eager to do my whole forehead, but he insisted we start slow and keep some laugh lines [crow’s feet] since it's natural and beautiful to have them. I now do my elevens and the very top of my forehead, where I have the deepest lines from staring at a computer screen all day.

What’s one piece of advice you’d like to share regarding injectable wrinkle reducers? Find a cosmetic dermatologist who you trust completely and won't try to upsell you or change your entire face to fit one "ideal" look; they should celebrate your individual features and respect what you want out of the procedure.

How old are you? 33 years old (I turn 34 on December 29).

How old were you when you started getting injectable wrinkle reducers? 31 years old (for my wedding!).

Who do you see for your injectables? Dr. Dendy Engelman. I chose her because after meeting her through different desksides at work and interviewing her for skincare stories, I felt she was extremely experienced (she treats Sofia Vergara!), knowledgeable, and receptive.

What do you get done? I treat [my] forehead line and crow’s feet.

What’s one piece of advice you’d like to share regarding injectable wrinkle reducers? Get it if you want it; it’s fine if you don’t. Don’t worry about what anyone else thinks. It’s a personal choice. If something on your face truly bothers you and you find a trustworthy, experienced doctor to work with, it’s a tool that can help.
