As a beauty editor, I get access to a wealth of skincare, hair, and makeup products — often before they hit the market — and, yes, they’re complimentary. However, I still frequently find myself trawling the internet, spending money on deals and new launches, chasing the rush that only comes with making a purchase. Summer, in particular, heralds the arrival of one of my all-time favorite beauty blowouts: the Nordstrom® Anniversary Sale™.
Running from July 19 through August 4 (or, if you have a Nordstrom card, July 12 through August 4), the Anniversary Sale is Nordstrom’s biggest of the year. It features hundreds of discounts, from skincare and fragrance to men’s grooming and makeup. Most notably, there are hundreds of beauty exclusives — meaning gift sets, products, and deals that you can only find at Nordstrom.
It’s those elusive gift sets that tend to reel me in, but I’m also a huge fan of the Nordstrom return policy, which is to say that there isn’t really an official one: there are no time constraints, and it doesn’t matter if you purchased a product online or in store. Just bring it back with a receipt and the team will do their best to accommodate you. (For what it’s worth, I’m that person who takes literal years to return things, and I have never been rejected at Nordstrom.) If you’re still not sure you want to commit to a specific product, you can visit your local store and ask a sales associate to make a sample for you, so you can test it first.
While I’m clearly a Nordstrom devotee, this year’s Anniversary Sale has me especially excited. From my favorite curling iron and a chic candle set to a blockbuster makeup set, keep reading to see the exclusives you should stock up on.
Whether you ascribe to the art of fragrance layering or are just a fan of simpler scents, the Jo Malone® Cologne Set ($92, $115 value) is a must-buy. It contains my all-time favorite perfume from the brand, Nectarine Blossom and Honey, plus four other classic colognes that you can wear together or separately all year round.
The Beachwaver® Pro Curling Iron ($133, $199 after sale ends) is the hot tool that taught me that I can actually curl my hair, and I don’t have to sacrifice an entire hour or singed fingertips to do so. It famously features buttons that rotate the barrel while your hair is clipped in, automatically curling your hair for you, as well as temperature control settings.
If you’re not sure if a pricier product like La Mer is worth the spend, a gift set featuring miniature versions of the brand’s bestsellers is an excellent way to test it out. The La Mer® Soothing Collection ($360, a $475 value) features the iconic Crème de la Mer®, as well as two eye formulas and a serum to fight signs of aging, all tucked in a chic tie-dye pouch.
I recommend this specific warm pink lip color to every lipstick wearer I know because it’s immensely flattering on all skin tones. The Charlotte Tilbury® Pillow Talk™ Lip Set ($60, a $78 value) features the hue in three iterations — lipstick, liner, and gloss — so you can create the ultimate sculpted, sexy pout.
We’ve touted the benefits of this microcurrent device on Spotlyte™ before, with celebrity estheticians and skincare obsessives alike swearing by its firming benefits. The NuFace Trinity® Set ($218, $325 after sale ends) features the tool, multiple tips for targeted treatment, and a conductive gel that makes it glide across your skin. Use it regularly and you should see tauter, more lifted skin.
Now that I’ve met Anastasia Soare and listened to her gospel, I fully believe in the power of a beautifully defined brow. The Anastasia Beverly Hills® Brow Duo Set ($25, a $43 value) contains her brand’s best-selling micro-tipped pencil and a gel to fill in your arches and keep them tamed.
I’m a red lip devotee, but sometimes, I like a breezy, no-fuss lip formula that I can slap on without a second thought. Dior’s Lip Glow Set definitely fits the bill: sheer, pH-adjusting balms that feel cozy on the lips and add a very subtle hint of color. The Dior® Lip Glow™ Set ($70, a $93 value) contains the pink version of the formula, a neutral lipstick, and a fun-sized version of my beloved Dior Addict Lip Maximizer® for the ultimate lazy summer lip.
I hate showing up to anyone’s home empty-handed — chalk it up to years of lugging around beauty products — so I’m snagging a few Diptyque® Candle Sets ($55, a $65 value) to give to all my gracious hostesses this season. The candles are pint-sized, but anyone who is familiar with Diptyque’s fragrances know that sizes can be deceiving — the scent from each votive can absolutely fill a room. You get five of the brand’s bestsellers, including Baies (a juicy currant), Feu de Bois (firewood), and Roses (well, rose, bien sûr).
