See Every Angle of Jennifer Lopez’s Regal Braided Updo at the Golden Globes

Jennifer Lopez hair and makeup look 2020 golden globes

If you’ve been following Jennifer Lopez’s career, you know that she never shies away from a dramatic beauty and style moment at an awards show. She wore that legendary down-to-there Versace® dress at the 2000 Grammy Awards®, paired with a casual half-up ponytail, breathtakingly long, bohemian hair with a bold center part for the 2018 MTV VMAs®, and an ultra-polished and sculpted blowout for last year’s Oscars®. For the 2020 Golden Globes®, however, she and her glam team may just have outdone themselves with a head-turning braided bun.

As soon as Lopez walked the red carpet, our eyes were immediately drawn to her hair, which was styled by her mane man, stylist Chris Appleton, who was working with Dyson® Pro Hair. In an email with SpotlyteTM, he shared that the inspiration was “an elegant Grace Kelly, but the braid made it more modern.” To create the style, Appleton prepped the star’s strands using Color Wow Dream Coat® ($28) to fight against humidity. He then used the Dyson Supersonic® Hair Dryer ($399), directing Lopez’s hair back and away from the face, creating a sleek, taut bun as a foundation for the look. After adding Color Wow® Pop and LockTM ($20) for shine, Appleton made two braids and wrapped them around the bun, stacking them on top of one another and securing them with large pins. The result was a dramatic, braided updo that looked like a crown of hair and reminded us of a Greek goddess.

Her go-to makeup artist, Scott Barnes, added to the “wow” factor with luxurious lashes on her upper and lower lids and a boldly chiseled cheek. He shared on Instagram® that he exclusively used his brand’s new palettes to create her look. Topping off the look was Lopez’s chic manicure, crafted by her longtime nail pro Tom Bachik. He created a modern take on the classic French manicure on her ballerina-shaped nails in homage to old Hollywood glamour. Paired with a bold, bow-finished gown, the finished result was nothing short of breathtaking. Appleton shared with us in an email that they were going for a “queen of the night vibe,” and we think the team nailed it.
