Breakout star and GRAMMY® winner Lizzo had already stolen our hearts last year with her sincere lyrics and catchy songs, but we’re especially smitten knowing that she appreciates unique skincare techniques. We’ve learned that, for the 2020 GRAMMYs, the singer and flautist prepped her complexion by dermaplaning, a method of facial hair removal that exfoliates while simultaneously removing the baby-fine “peach fuzz” on the surface of skin.
Before applying the star’s “classic Hollywood beauty” makeup for the evening, Lizzo’s makeup artist Alexx Mayo used the at-home dermaplaning device DERMAFLASH® LUXE ($200) on the singer. “DERMAFLASH is the best way to exfoliate away dull, dead skin and unwanted peach fuzz,” says Mayo. “It really does result in instantly smooth skin, creating a perfect canvas for makeup, [and] taking Lizzo’s look to the next level.” In case you are unfamiliar with the technique, dermaplaning doesn’t remove coarse facial hairs, only the vellus (peach fuzz) hairs, so it doesn’t leave any stubble behind — only touchably soft, radiant skin. Of course, Mayo wasn’t done once he dermaplaned Lizzo. He went on to give her a glamorous makeup look, namely a shimmery smoky eye using Urban Decay® Party FavorTM Moondust Palette ($29) topped off with KISS® Lash CoutureTM LuXtensionsTM Collection Lashes in Drama ($8).
The rest of Lizzo’s look was just as elegant. After cleansing and conditioning her hair, celebrity stylist Shelby Swain used Matrix® Total Results Curl Please Contouring Lotion ($17) to nourish and shape Lizzo’s strands. She then transformed them into vintage waves using the ghd Curve® Curling Iron ($199). Topping off the evening’s beauty masterpiece were the singer’s fingernails, which celebrity manicurist Eri Ishizu adorned with dangling crystals and Christian Louboutin® MetalinudesTM Lacquer in Goldissima ($50). We don’t know about you, but this classically beautiful look is definitely inspiring us before we head out on our next date night.
