Sure, you may primarily hear the women in your life discussing the temporary wrinkle-smoothing, volume-boosting effects of injectables, but don’t be fooled: men are fans of aesthetic treatments, too. After all, caring about one’s appearance is not a gender-specific trait, and we found Californian men that prove exactly that. Here, we interview three guys over the age of 35 who divulge exactly how they first heard about injectables, what their first treatment was like, and why they took the plunge. Spoiler alert: they’ve all gone back for repeat appointments!
Injectable wrinkle reducers temporarily smooth the look of moderate to severe wrinkles in certain areas of the face, including the forehead, frown lines, and crow’s feet; they should not be used more frequently than every three months. Injectable filler is a temporary treatment that adds volume to areas of the face such as the lips, cheeks, and laugh lines. Like any medical treatment, both injectable wrinkle reducers and injectable fillers have potential risks and side effects. Talk to a licensed provider to see if they’re right for you. His story: “My good friend had been raving about injectables for a year or two in the early 2010s. At the time, I didn’t know [any other] people who were openly getting injectable treatments, so when she told me that she had been getting them and loved [the results], I was intrigued and wanted to know more. She happily passed her doctor’s information along and I booked a [consultation] for injectable wrinkle reducers.
I don’t like needles at all, but after a mini-panic episode and deep breaths, my doctor began and it was over before I even knew it. It was 2011 or 2012 when I first started going, and I haven’t missed an appointment since!”

His story: “When you’re around hundreds of women for work, you’re bound to hear it all. No procedure is left un-talked about in my chair, and injectables are definitely one of the more popular conversations I have with my clients. My client actually got me [a consultation] for filler as a holiday gift with her dermatologist a few years back, and I had to ask her if it had an expiration date because I needed to think about it! I waited over a year to make my first appointment because I was nervous — I was mainly afraid I would look like I had work done. The doctor ended up being [a fan of subtle-looking treatment]. I loved the results, and continue to go about every six months or so.”

His story: “I have worked in beauty [and aesthetics] my entire career, and discussions around injectables have always been the norm. I even oversaw a pharmaceutical company at one point in my career! Needless to say, I didn’t “discover” injectables, but rather have been seeing, hearing, and talking about them for a [long time].
My ex-fiancée worked at a well-known beauty magazine and was always getting free this and that. One night, I attended an event with her at an esteemed plastic surgeon’s office, where they were doling out complimentary injectable [consultations and treatments]. I had definitely thought about getting them before. Because they were right there and [it is] a rather exclusive event, I gave them a try. Within a few days, the injectable wrinkle reducers [started to] soften [the look of] a majority of my deep-set forehead wrinkles. I did really like the results, although I have only gone back one other time to get treatment.”
The results of injectable wrinkle reducers may start to show in the first few days after treatment, but it typically takes a few weeks to see their full effect.
