Injectable Wrinkle Reducers

7 People Share Why They Finally Tried Injectable Wrinkle Reducers

woman about to get botox injections for wrinkles

People are getting injectable wrinkle reducers more than ever before. In fact, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons® reports that minimally-invasive cosmetic treatments (which include injectable wrinkle reducers and fillers) are up 228% in the last two decades. But even though injectable wrinkle reducers are more popular, the road to first-time treatment isn’t necessarily linear. For instance, some people consider injectables for years before scheduling their consultation. Others may not even have realized injectables were an option until a friend or family member enlightened them.

Ultimately, everyone has their own timeline and reasons for when and why they finally decide to try injectable wrinkle reducers. To illustrate this point, SpotlyteTM asked seven adults of all ages and all walks of life to share what made them finally decide to try injectable wrinkle reducers. From a 37-year-old man who was inspired by his wife to a 27-year-old woman who finally decided to treat a line that’d bothered her for years, keep reading for their stories.

Editor's Note

Injectable wrinkle reducers temporarily smooth the look of moderate to severe wrinkles in certain areas of the face, including the forehead, frown lines, and crow’s feet; they should not be used more frequently than every three months. Injectable filler is a temporary treatment that adds volume to areas of the face such as the lips, cheeks, and laugh lines. Like any medical treatment, both injectable wrinkle reducers and injectable fillers have potential risks and side effects. Talk to a licensed provider to see if they’re right for you.

The patient: Lainey*, 46
The location: Scottsdale, Arizona
The provider: Ideal Image®
The areas treated: Forehead, Glabella

The backstory:
Lainey says that she put off getting injectable wrinkle reducers longer than she wishes she would have, and that she spent a good two to three years researching and talking to others before finally deciding to give them a try. She tells us that she was a little nervous about experiencing overly dramatic results.

Spotlyte: What made you finally decide to try injectable wrinkle reducer?
Lainey: “My dermatologist was having an injectables seminar and event, so I took the plunge. Candidly, having needles stuck in your body is uncomfortable, but [I personally find that] the pain is minimal and brief.”

Spotlyte: How was your experience?

The patient: Josh, 37
The location: Palo Alto, California
The provider: Lynn Bartels, NP, at Skin Spirit℠
The areas treated: Forehead, Glabella, Crow’s Feet

The backstory:
Josh thought about getting injectable wrinkle reducers for about a year before actually committing to the treatment.

Spotlyte: What made you finally decide to try injectable wrinkle reducer?
Josh: “There were two primary reasons. The first was my wife: she was encouraging me to give it a try. Second, after meeting with [my provider] Lynn, I felt adventurous enough to try it in even more areas than I had planned on.”

Spotlyte: How was your experience?
Josh: “I am very pleased with my results. I have been back for two follow-up appointments so far, and I look forward to continuing.”

The patient: Annie, 35
The location: Indianapolis, Indiana
The provider: Dermatology, Inc.℠
The areas treated: Forehead

The backstory: Annie tells us she had prominent wrinkles on her forehead that’d bothered her for quite a while. She’d considered getting injectable wrinkle reducers for about a year before doing so.

Spotlyte: What made you finally decide to try injectable wrinkle reducer?
Annie: “When one of my friends told me she had tried injectable wrinkle reducers, and I saw her before and after photos — that gave me the motivation to try it. I was worried about possible side effects, including allergic reactions, but I have been very happy with the results!”

Spotlyte: How was your experience?
Annie: “I am thrilled with the results and have been going back to my dermatologist consistently about every three months for injections.”

The patient: Sarah, 46
The location: Greenbrae, California
The provider: Cheryl Huang, MD, at Marin Aesthetica℠
The areas treated: Forehead, Glabella, Crow’s Feet

The backstory: Sarah was initially resistant to the idea of getting injectable wrinkle reducers, but her conversations with other people who’d had the treatments ultimately swayed her.

Spotlyte: What made you finally decide to try injectable wrinkle reducer?
Sarah: “There are two people who are the reasons I decided to give it a try. First, a comment by a close relative who said she regretted not starting earlier. Also, another dear friend of mine advised me to [get a consultation]. I followed that great advice and have never second guessed it.”

Spotlyte: How was your experience?
Sarah: “I now go every four to months to see Dr. Huang and look forward to my treatments. While I was a bit coy with my husband at first, I have learned that injectable wrinkle reducers are not a four-letter word that should only be used in hushed conversations. When people compliment [my results], I always tell them I have great providers who work their magic.”

The patient: Synda, 34
The location: New York City
The provider: BodyFactory® Skin Care
The areas treated: Forehead, Glabella

The backstory: For a good six months to a year, Synda toyed with the idea of trying injectable wrinkle reducers. She tells us that her forehead has “a lot” of wrinkles which bothered her.

Spotlyte: What made you finally decide to try injectable wrinkle reducers?
Synda: “A lot of my friends had done it, and it greatly reduced [the appearance of their] forehead wrinkles.”

Spotlyte: How was your experience?
Synda: “My first time was good for the most part, but since it was the first time, I had to go back for a follow-up appointment. In addition to forehead wrinkles, I also have a very deep furrow line, so [the treatments] help to reduce it. I’ve now done it about three to four more times. It is pricey to continue getting the treatments, but I like the results.”

The patient: Sophie*, 31
The location: Scottsdale, Arizona
The provider: JV Aesthetics℠
The areas treated: Forehead, Glabella, Crow’s Feet

The backstory: Sophie started thinking about getting injectable wrinkle reducers and researching providers for about six months before making her first appointment.

Spotlyte: What made you finally decide to try injectable wrinkle reducer?
Sophie: “There were several days at work when people would tell me that I must be concentrating very hard. I realized this was because my eyebrows were always contracted, and my face consistently appeared to be frowning. My forehead lines and crow’s feet became so obvious, I knew it was time to make a change.”

Spotlyte: How was your experience?
Sophie: “I was so happy with the results that I did not want my [lines] to [revert back to] how they looked before, so I go back for treatment every three to four months. I’m very happy with my decision to start injectable wrinkle reducers.”

The patient: Lindsay, 31
The location: Boston, Massachusetts
The provider: Papri Sarkar, MD, at Northeast Dermatology Associates
The areas treated: Forehead

The backstory: Lindsay had a deep line on her forehead since her teenage years. She found herself obsessing over it, as it seemed to appear in every photo she was in. At 27, her mother suggested [getting a consultation for] injectable wrinkle reducers. Though she was apprehensive, Lindsay ultimately went to the dermatologist with her mom while visiting back home.

Spotlyte: What made you finally decide to try injectable wrinkle reducer?
Lindsay: “I didn't want to see that horrible line in all of my photos.”

Spotlyte: How was your experience?
Lindsay: “The first time was very painful. I had a bad headache for about 48 hours, and then it went away. [When the treatment kicked in], I was so impressed with the results. Now, I get injectable wrinkle reducer every four months in my forehead. When I show people how my forehead used to look, they're amazed at how [much smoother it looks]. I'm so grateful I tried injectables.”
