Lady Gaga’s Sultry, Lived-In GRAMMYs Beauty Is Our Valentine’s Day Date Night Inspiration

By Emily Orofino

We look to red carpets for real-life beauty inspiration constantly — and when we saw Lady Gaga at this year’s GRAMMY® Awards, we knew we’d found the perfect look to recreate for Valentine’s Day this year.

The singer struck the perfect balance of sultry, edgy, and elegant thanks to messy waves and a smudgy, smoldering eye. Celebrity stylist Frederic Aspiras gave Gaga loose, tousled waves that looked like they could have come courtesy of a day at the beach. In reality, he used two different hot tools (including the ghd® platinum+™ styler, $249) and Joico® Body Shake™ Texturizing Finisher ($20) to add a little body and grit to Gaga’s strands.

The singer’s longtime makeup artist, Sarah Nicole Tanno, was inspired by “rockstar culture” for her makeup masterpiece. She specifically wanted the eye makeup to look “lived in” and like she put it on yesterday.”  To achieve this effect, she sketched Marc Jacobs® Beauty Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner in Blacquer 42 ($25) onto the outer corners of the eyes and smudged it. Tanno then used the black and neutral shades in the Eye-Conic™ Multi-Finish Eyeshadow Palette in Steel(etto) 820 ($49) to diffuse the liner and shape the eye. She finished the look by skipping mascara (to keep the eye from appearing too “glam”) and slicking on a peachy nude gloss.

The best part about this sneakily sexy hair and makeup creation is that it was meant to look like it was from the night before. So if you end up sleeping in it after your Valentine’s Day date (no judgment!), you know that it will be just as gorgeous the next morning.
