Danielle Jonas Reveals The Career Advice Husband Kevin Jonas Gave To Her

With a few keystrokes and a quick Google® search, you can uncover the birthdate of nearly any celebrity. Danielle Jonas is no different. But, when I ask her age, the 33-year-old answers that query with a different angle. “I’ve been 28 for the last five years,” says the Denville, New Jersey, native.

Coincidentally, the last five years have been monumental ones for her and her family. Within that specific time span, Jonas and her husband Kevin — of Jonas Brothers fame — became parents to two girls, Alena Rose, 5, and Valentina Angelina, 3. The Jonas Brothers (Kevin included) released their first single together in six years. And, the influential mom of two, who has 1.9 million Instagram® followers, also became a jewelry entrepreneur.

This October, her eponymous brand Danielle JonasTM launched a 14-piece line called New BeginningsTM. Her dainty, fashion-forward designs, including necklaces, earrings, bracelets, rings, and anklets, retail for $40 to $70. Between running her business and being dedicated to her family, Jonas juggles a lot of responsibilities. For jam-packed days, she developed a quick way to practice self-care (and beautify) in a pinch. “Blowing out my own hair has always been my favorite thing to do,” she says. “Something about it calms me.”

Beyond quick at-home treatments, discover what makes Jonas feel most beautiful, and how becoming a mom has changed her beauty routine. She also divulges the helpful career guidance Kevin supplies, and the beauty product this power couple share a love for.

Spotlyte: How did you first become interested in jewelry, and how did the line come about?

Danielle Jonas: My love for jewelry started when I was younger. I used to go through my grandma’s jewelry box and was so intrigued by all the different styles she acquired through the years.

Spotlyte: Who have been your biggest cheerleaders during the brand’s development, and throughout your career?

DJ: My family has and always will be my biggest fans, but in this case, especially my brother Michael (“Mikey”) and sister Kathleen Deleasa. I came to Mikey after the success of his company LAVALTM, and asked him to help me build out the line. Together, we created what is now Danielle Jonas. Once it started to take off, Kathleen joined the team. She’s really pushed me in expanding my creativity — especially through the content we create. She’s really been my biggest cheerleader through all of this.

Spotlyte: What’s the best career advice you’ve received, and who gave it to you?

DJ: It was actually Kevin! He said to me, “If you want to do this, make sure you love every aspect of it. What I’ve learned in my career is that the things you enjoy doing the most will be the things you succeed at and care about more.” That advice is super relevant today, and I put that into every aspect of the company — down to how a piece is designed.

Spotlyte: Has Kevin taught you anything about beauty?

DJ: Kevin never fails to make me feel like the most beautiful one in the room. It’s really the sweetest thing. It still gives me butterflies to think that, even 10 years later, we can still look at one another like that.

Spotlyte: Do you and Kevin share any beauty or grooming products?

DJ: We are big fans of face masks!

Spotlyte: What do you teach your children about beauty?

DJ: I try to show my girls the confidence and love I have for myself. I feel like it’s one of the best ways to teach them to always love themselves, to celebrate what makes them different, and to share that love with other people.

Spotlyte: How has your skincare routine and makeup regimen changed since having kids?

DJ: It hasn’t changed too much! I am more open to trying new things and adding to my routine.

Spotlyte: Tell us about the skincare products you use.

DJ: Mad Hippie® products are a part of my current skincare routine, as well as Palmetto Derma® Collagen Booster and Restoration Serum. Another thing is making sure I always have my creams. My grandma has always had great skin, and she always used creams, which was passed down to my mom, who also has great skin. I learned at a young age that cream is key!

Spotlyte: What’s your stance on anti-aging?

DJ: Staying hydrated and having a good, consistent skincare routine is key. With all my creams and oils, I’ve been able to still feel in control of the effects of aging as much as I can. It also just makes me feel good, in the morning or after a long day.

Spotlyte: Who is your dermatologist?

DJ: Dr. Shari Sperling in Florham Park, New Jersey.

Spotlyte: What beauty treatments do you get, and how often?

DJ: I love a good day when I have time to treat myself! I find massages and facials are perfect for self-care. They make me feel rejuvenated.

Spotlyte: When do you feel your most beautiful?

DJ: Honestly, not much can beat the feeling right after a good haircut. I’ve been going to Josie, the owner of Broome Street Society℠ in New York, for seven years. When I leave her, I feel like a new person!

Spotlyte: What’s in your makeup bag?

DJ: A few things in my bag are bareMinerals® bronzer and blush, Bobbi Brown® eyeliner, and L’Oréal Paris® mascara.

Spotlyte: What do you enjoy doing in your spare time for fun?

DJ: Spending as much time as I can with my kids! Whether we are doing crafts or playing “grocery store,” I use most of my time to create those memories with them. Also, I love working out. It gives my mind a break once in a while.
